At the time of your birth, the star constellation in which your moon is placed in your birth chart, and the degrees in which it is placed, determine which Dasha will be occurring in your life. Each planet has different cycles for the stages of life and they are called Mahadashas. The word “Maha” means great. The word “Dasha” means a stage in life. Last week we discussed the Mars, Venus, and Mercury Mahadashas.

To continue, the Shani (Saturn) Mahadasha lasts about 15 years in total. In general, it is a time period where one will start to become more aware of their surroundings and gain a maturity that only experience can bring. Great changes in the mind and spirit occur as you collect all of your life’s events into your sense of being. In this time, one gains the opportunity to work through much their karma, with the goal of achieving balance by the time the next and final dasha, mercury, comes around. Favorable placement of saturn will bring peace to one’s mind, content for one’s position, and a greater understanding of one’s reality. An ill placed saturn would bring disarray in one’s thoughts, identity crises, and an ignorance for one’s surroundings. Regardless of placement, this is a time where the justice of the universe will be unleashed. Whether this is a positive or negative thing relies on the individual’s karma.

The Rahu Mahadasha lasts around 18 years, while Ketu lasts about 7 years. An unfavorably placed Rahu will bring depression, uncertainty, and spiritual inconsistencies. Similarly, an unfavorably placed Ketu will bring depression, anxiety, and lack of focus. While Rahu and Ketu are seen to be the most negative dashas in one’s life, they may actually deliver some helpful assets if placed favorably. A well placed Rahu will bring wealth and fame, while a well placed Ketu will bring luxury and intuition.

Mahadashas are further ruled by different planets as there is also Antardasha. Antardasha is an extended period of a Mahadasha that is sub-divided into 9 segments called the antardasha or also known as the sub-ruling planets. The effects of Antardasha will vary for each Mahadasha based on the power and strength or the ruling Dasha’s lord. It also depends on each person’s unique chart. Both, Antardasha and Mahadasha have equally important influences on a person’s life stage.

Remember, the Mahadasha you are currently in can be calculated by analyzing the positions of the stars and planets at various moments of your life. Knowing which stage you are in and if the respective astrological entity is positioned properly can be critical in ensuring a smooth life. Book an appointment today to learn more.
